ZeroTier rocks!

I’m giddy at the moment.  I decided to give ZeroTier a try tonight.  In less them 5 mins I was able to get Roon running over it.  As in connecting remotely to the server using RAAT not thru ARC!  My computer is an endpoint and my phone as a control surface!  I’ve tried messing with this before with no success and figured this would be the same.  If you want to save yourself $$$ on a Roon license and have multiple homes or want to listen in the office this is the way to go.

It’s simple too.  Here are the steps I used:

  1. Opened a basic account – Free tier you don’t have to pay!
  2. Log in and create a network on the web console.  I used all the defaults but made sure it was a private network.
  3. Install the client software on the Roon server and any other devices you want to connect to it.  Up to 10 devices on the free tier.
  4. On each device register it with the network ID that is generated when you create the network on the web console.
  5. Go back to the web console and refresh it.  You should see the devices you added.  Check the boxes next to them and click the authorize button.
  6. Fire up Roon on your control surface and see if it works! It’s as simple as that!

Give it a try and ping me if you need any help.  Happy remote listening!
