ZeroTier rocks!
I’m giddy at the moment. I decided to give ZeroTier a try tonight. In less them 5 mins I was able to get Roon running over it. As in connecting remotely to the server using RAAT not thru ARC! My computer is an endpoint and my phone as a control surface! I’ve tried messing with this before with no success and figured this would be the same. If you want to save yourself $$$ on a Roon license and have multiple homes or want to listen in the office this is the way to go.
It’s simple too. Here are the steps I used:
- Opened a basic account – Free tier you don’t have to pay!
- Log in and create a network on the web console. I used all the defaults but made sure it was a private network.
- Install the client software on the Roon server and any other devices you want to connect to it. Up to 10 devices on the free tier.
- On each device register it with the network ID that is generated when you create the network on the web console.
- Go back to the web console and refresh it. You should see the devices you added. Check the boxes next to them and click the authorize button.
- Fire up Roon on your control surface and see if it works! It’s as simple as that!
Give it a try and ping me if you need any help. Happy remote listening!
